Kangaroot donates 3000 euro
Week of the Volunteer 2022
This week, we would like to reflect briefly on the importance of volunteering and what that means for our employees.
In the past few years, we have been supporting little proposals from our employees to do good: like buying chocolate for a charity that is dear to them or filling up our big jar with little bottle caps to help train dogs for blind people, ….
Since 2020, we went a step further and asked our team which charities are close to their heart. Because sharing with the community is one of our values, we've changed our traditional new year's gift and gave our customers the choice between a personal gift or a contribution to a selection of these charities. We were pleased to see that so many of our customers preferred the charities. A big thank you to our customers for that kind gesture!
An equally big thank you to our team for their input & engagement on the charities. Please read more about Maxim's volunteering experiences below. We’ve selected three charities this year: Bloemenstad, BeyondGaming and their 100 km run for Kom op tegen Kanker and WWF Belgium (see more info below). In total, we were able to donate 3000 euro divided across these three charities.
Our chosen charities

Bloemenstad
A youth movement, open to everyone.
The volunteers at Bloemenstad believe in the power of fun. It is essential for everyone but unfortunately not obvious. Bloemenstad wants to do something about that and offers activities, camps and holidays for children, young people & adults from vulnerable target groups. Everyone deserves a safe place to romp, develop or unwind.
Bloemenstad is supported by volunteers, they are the engine of the operation. They know better than anyone what fun is and look at the participants with clean eyes. The participants are the embodiment of what Bloemenstad stands for: inclusion. They don't think in boxes.
Everyone is different, different is good.

BeyondGaming
Supporting the 100 km run for Kom op tegen Kanker
BeyondGaming is a gaming community where all topics are discussed, so certainly not just games. And just like everywhere else, their members and their relatives or friends are regularly affected by cancer.
Therefore BeyondGaming had chosen 8 runners to complete the 100 km run. This run is a unique running event, in which teams of four run 100 km together for the benefit of the fight against cancer.

WWF
Together we are the solution!
Since 1966, WWF Belgium has been working day after day for a living planet that we can proudly pass on to the generations after us. WWF is committed to halting the decline of nature and building a future where humans live in harmony with nature.
WWF Belgium contributes to the conservation strategy developed by the WWF network and works on the ground and at the political level to protect biodiversity in these six key areas: Amazon, Congo Basin, Miombo Forest Savannah, Mekong Region, "Green Heart of Europe" and also in Belgium.
We have chosen to support WWF's action to restore & protect Malawi's wild animal wealth.
Sharing with the community
That’s the idea behind Open Source and why we love it so much!
At Kangaroot we try to do this on different levels. To me helping out our personal communities by supporting charities and the engagement of our employees in these charities is very important.
IT experts are often seen as loners, nerds and binary, where things are either true or false or other clichés, but I can assure you, our experts are people with a big heart.
It warms my HR heart that we do this as a company and that our wonderful team and customers are joining us in this.
Maxim volunteers at Bloemenstad
A youth movement, open for everyone!
I've been a volunteer at Bloemenstad since 2013. Bloemenstad is a youth organisation that provides summer camps and vacations for people with mental disabilities. For a little while now, Bloemenstad has a local youth atelier for children that live in vulnerable environments in Gent as well.
Bloemenstad is a warm organisation where everyone is welcomed and loved. This is why I love being a volunteer there.
The motto of the organisation is: Everyone has the right to go on vacation. To help realise that motto, Kangaroot is donating 1000 euros to Bloemenstad VZW, which I really appreciate. Thanks!
