Kangaroot donates 3000 euro to charities!
Sharing with the community, that’s the idea behind Open Source and why we love it so much!
In the past few years, we have been supporting little proposals from our employees to do good: like buying chocolate for a charity that is dear to them or filling up our big jar with little bottle caps to help train dogs for blind people, ….
Since 2020, we went a step further and asked our team which charities are close to their heart. Because sharing with the community is one of our values, we've changed our traditional new year's gift and gave our customers the choice between a personal gift or a contribution to a selection of these charities. We were pleased to see that so many of our customers preferred the charities. A big thank you to our customers & partners for that kind gesture!
An equally big thank you to our team for their input & engagement on the charities. Please read more about our colleagues' volunteering experiences below. We’ve selected 4 charities this year: Awel, Nektari, Pelicano and Wervel (see more info below). In total, we were able to donate 3000 euro divided across these 4 charities!
Our chosen charities

Michael volunteers at Nektari
"Everyone has the right for a safe home and to develop their talents. However, some people require extra care to comply. Nektari offers a warm home to people with disabilities by dividing them into living groups. Here they can feel safe thanks to a personal approach and adapted care. So that everyone can still have their own nest.
In addition, efforts are also made to support their talents, so they can work. It is often a dream to be able to work & feel useful. Thanks to adapted care and guidance, this becomes a reality and people act independently and productively! For example, this work was essential during the pandemic, to distribute all vaccines correctly."

Fabienne supports Pelicano
"I'm carrying a warm heart for the Pelicano Foundation, because all children have the right to equal opportunities! The Pelicano Foundation is committed to solving child poverty in Belgium. They offer concrete help to children by financially supporting them in their basic needs.
Getting enough to eat and being able to grow up in good conditions is the minimum. The help of the Pelicano Foundation continues. With sound education and meaningful leisure activities, they create real opportunities for the future. In that way, their support evolves from urgent to sustainable and history does not repeat itself.
This is primarily enjoyed by the child, but also by society as a whole. I am very happy that we can contribute to this with Kangaroot."

Volunteering at Awel
"The aim is to listen to children & young people (chat & telephone between certain hours, mail around the clock), anonymously & free of charge. There is no judgment, but on the contrary encouragement and, above all, encouragement to look for a solution that suits the young person, so that he or she learns and develops during the process. Empowerment. We as volunteers are well trained, receive briefings on current themes, and throughout the year there are extra learning moments (for which you receive points: you must achieve a minimum per year) such as e.g. intervisions, workshops, online seminars, etc."

Benjamin supports Wervel
"Because quality food and a healthy living environment are important to bring out the best in people."

Pelicano
1 child in 5 still grows up in poverty or risks falling into poverty. That is more than 500 000 children in Belgium. A hallucinatory figure that the Pelicano Foundation wants to reduce as quickly as possible. Every day Pelicano fights against child poverty in our country to make sure every child living in our country is entitled to the same opportunities: sufficient food, healthy living conditions, decent education and meaningful leisure time. Saving children from poverty is first and foremost of great importance to the individual, but also our society benefits from it.

Nektari
As a network organisation, Nektari opts for lifelong care and focuses on the talents of people with disabilities or who are distanced from the labor market by pursuing an inclusive policy that emphasizes personal autonomy, development and individual skills.
They achieve this by working demand-driven in a sustainable and socially responsible manner with permanent attention to cooperation and innovative, social entrepreneurship in Klein-Brabant and surrounding regions.

Awel
Awel listens to all children and youth with a question, a story, a problem.
Awel wants to offer every child and young person a listening ear. They can contact Awel about anything that concerns them. Well there is by listening, empathizing and thinking along.

Wervel
Wervel is a movement that works on a healthy food system from a connection. They raise issues and make alternatives visible. With fair prices for farmers, people who take food into their own hands again and the restorative power of agroecology. In short: with respect for farmers, eaters and our planet
